Hon. Members of the Executive
Hon. Members of the House
Hon. Speaker, one of the major challenges that face South Africa is our high unemployment rate. The ANC government has made considerable efforts to eradicate this problem and provide job creation opportunities for South Africans, especially for our youth.
During the State of the Nation address in June this year, President Jacob Zuma informed the people of government’s plans to address the unemployment rate. This dark cloud that hangs over the youth of the nation is an issue that we should be addressed collectively.
As President Zuma mentioned, “government will provide an expansion on the number of internship positions in the public sector and make it a requirement for all government departments and public entities”. As already stipulated the employment tax incentive has already benefited 133 000 employees.
ANC indeed has a good story to tell…and so it continues…
Hon. Members today I would like to contribute towards our good story. I would like to congratulate the Free State Province for creating 10 000 jobs between July and September of this year. The new jobs contributed towards the significant decrease of 0.4 percent in the unemployment rate for the third quarter to 34.6 percent. This data was collected by the Quarterly Labour Force Survey (QLFS), which is a household-based sample survey conducted by Stats SA. Hon Members, the ANC Free State government is working hard to ensure the unemployment rate decreases. Let us continue to work collectively and change the lives of all South Africans.
